Shift Technician

Carousel, part of the Go-Ahead Group, is one of the UK’s leading public transport providers, delivering reliable and high-quality services across our communities.

We’re looking for a Shift Technician to ensure our vehicles are maintained to the highest standards, supporting safe, compliant, and efficient operations across our network.

Standard hours will be a minimum of 42 hours per week, 4 on 4 off working from 7am-7pm.

What you'll do:

  • Inspect, diagnose, maintain, and repair company vehicles including buses, coaches, and vans
  • Ensure all vehicles meet Company, Department for Transport, and DVSA standards
  • Work independently to resolve mechanical and technical issues efficiently
  • Use diagnostic equipment to identify and rectify faults
  • Safely handle, store, and use materials relevant to engineering tasks
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation in line with compliance requirements
  • Carry out road testing of vehicles (licence permitting)
  • Take responsibility for tools, equipment, and materials used in daily work
  • Support continuous improvement by keeping up to date with technical developments
  • Follow all Health & Safety policies, risk assessments, and safe working practices
  • Act as an ambassador for the company and promote high standards at all times
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, contractors, and stakeholders

About You

You will be a reliable and skilled Technician with a strong commitment to safety, quality, and teamwork.

Essential:

  • City & Guilds Level 3 / NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Proven experience in vehicle maintenance (PCV or HGV)
  • Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills
  • Knowledge of DVSA and Department for Transport standards
  • Understanding of Health & Safety and risk assessment practices
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Good communication skills
  • Full UK manual driving licence
  • Own hand tools

Desirable:

  • PCV licence (or willingness to obtain)
  • Experience with bus bodywork
  • Automotive electrical knowledge
  • IOSH or equivalent qualification
  • Experience using diagnostic computer systems
