Service changes from 4th September 2022
Following discussions with Buckinghamshire Council, we’ll be making change to several Carousel bus services from Sunday 4th September 2022.
Buckinghamshire Network Review – ‘the one’ and 36/37
Bus operators are required to hold formal network review discussions with Local Transport Authorities as part of the terms and conditions of government support received to support the bus network following the patronage reductions observed over the COVID-19 pandemic.
Accordingly, we have been in discussions with Buckinghamshire Council and as a result, the two groups of services which are currently operated jointly by Carousel and Arriva (‘the one’ and 36/37) will become single-operator corridors. This will allow the Council and operators to better match capacity to demand on each corridor and give greater operational efficiency and support more comprehensive and financially sustainable timetables than could be achieved with joint operation.
Therefore, from 4th September 2022 ‘the one’ will be operated by Carousel and the 36/37 will be operated by Arriva.
‘the one’ between High Wycombe, Amersham, Chesham and Hemel Hempstead
Carousel will become the sole operator of ‘the one’ services and will provide a combined up to every 20 minutes Monday to Saturday daytime frequency between High Wycombe, Amersham and Chesham. Three services will each operate hourly:
- 1 High Wycombe to/from Hemel Hempstead via Hazlemere, Stanley Hill & Chesham
- 1A High Wycombe to/from Pond Park Estate via Hazlemere, Station Road & Chesham
- 1B High Wycombe to/from Pond Park Estate via Hazlemere, Stanley Hill & Chesham
A half-hourly service will continue to be provided between Chesham Broadway and the Pond Park estate and an hourly service will be maintained to Lye Green, Bovingdon and Hemel Hempstead. The Sunday service will remain hourly as at present.
the one - Timetable effective from 4th September (60kb)
Services 36/36B/36S between High Wycombe, Flackwell Heath and Bourne End
Arriva will become the sole operator along this corridor, providing a combined up to every 20 minute Monday to Saturday daytime frequency across services 35, 36 & 37 between High Wycombe and Bourne End. One bus an hour will continue on to Maidenhead as it does now. The Sunday service will remain hourly as at present. Full details of the new timetables will be available on the Arriva website in due course.
In addition to the above we will be making the following changes from the 4th September 2022:
Chiltern Hundreds 103
As part of our network review in Buckinghamshire, it has become clear that patronage between Beaconsfield and Amersham is very low and so unfortunately the section of the Chiltern Hundreds 103 between Beaconsfield and Chesham via Amersham will be withdrawn. Buses on ‘the one’ will provide a bus between Amersham and Chesham up to every 20 minutes.
We are pleased to announce that the revised Chiltern Hundreds 103 will instead continue beyond Beaconsfield to Slough via Farnham Common and Farnham Road, restoring links that have not been in place for a number of years.
The Chiltern Hundreds 103 will have additional earlier and later trips as well as enhanced frequencies operating during the morning and afternoon peaks, providing great connectivity for commuters, leisure travellers and scholars alike!
At Slough Bus Station, the Chiltern Hundreds 103 will depart from Stand 7.
Chiltern Hundreds 103 - Timetable effective from 4th September (103kb)
Chiltern Hundreds 106/107
At Slough Bus Station, the Chiltern Hundreds 106 and 107 will depart from Stand 7 (previously Stand 9).
39 and 39A
There will be minor changes to the 39 timetable throughout the week.
Unfortunately, due to low usage, the 39A service will be withdrawn. Those who wish to travel from Totteridge to Sir William Ramsay School are advised to board the 39 to High Wycombe Bus Station arriving at 0728 and then catch the 0734 departure on the 5 to Royal Grammar School and Sir William Ramsay School. This will usually be operated by the same vehicle, and Carousel Zone A passes will allow for travel on both services. Passengers with passes valid for travel within Zone A will therefore normally be able to stay on the same bus. The reverse arrangement is recommended in the afternoon with the 5 arriving at High Wycombe Bus Station at 1549 and the 39 to Totteridge departing at 1555.
Route 39 - Timetable effective from 4th September (62kb)
BB12
In order to provide a more punctual service, afternoon timings have been slightly adjusted.
Route BB12 - Timetable effective from 4th September (44kb)
5
Sir William Ramsay School has informed us that the times of the school day will be changing from September. We have taken this opportunity to revise the timetable of service 5 to better suit the new school day. Additionally, the service will extend to start and finish at High Wycombe Bus Station, providing improved connections for those traveling to Royal Grammar and Sir William Ramsay Schools.
